Scripture: Romans 12:11
11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
Devotion: In Romans 12:11, Paul suggests the zeal and energy to characterize our Christian walk. He says, “Never be lacking in zeal,” which means we should always keep a burning enthusiasm and resolve to serve the Lord no matter what comes our way. This calls for us to remain awake while avoiding idleness that may result in cooling down from any mission he might have entrusted us with.
“Serve the Lord with fervor” indicates that we should remain spiritually strong and connected to God at all times. This passion cannot be generated by oneself but through the Holy Spirit, who dwells in us. Through prayer, worship, and intensively feeding on God’s word, we receive the power to live lives full of faith yet bold.
It is important to understand that serving God goes beyond formal ministry—it involves everything about our lives. Our actions and attitudes at work, at home, or even among other people should display our commitment to him. In this way, we become His lights among people who have lost their way, thus giving them a chance to see love and truth as well.
Questions:
Prayer: Thank You for calling me into service with zeal and fervency. In instances where I have become tired or indifferent about my faith, forgive me. Unite my soul again with godliness; do not let me fail to communicate with you by words and deeds, prayer, worship, and reading the bible. May it be that what people see in me is nothing other than your kindness plus a living testimony of your goodness. Lord, make me stronger so that all things in my life may reflect my serving you willingly and, consequently, yours alone being glorified in everything I perform. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
