Devotion by Pastor Shane - August 7, 2023

1 Peter 1:14-15 says, "As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;"

In these verses, Peter calls us to live as holy children of God. As believers, we are called to a higher standard, distinct from the world around us. Before we knew Christ, we were trapped by the desires of the flesh, living in ignorance of God's truth. However, through His grace and calling, we have been set apart for a holy purpose.

Peter urges us not to conform to our former way of living but to embrace the holiness that God has called us to. Our heavenly Father, who called us into His family, is holy and Desires His children to reflect His character. Holiness is not just a set of rules to follow; it reflects God's nature working within us.

Living a holy life doesn't mean we become perfect overnight, but it is a continuous journey of growth and transformation. It involves surrendering our old ways, sinful desires, and behavior patterns to God, allowing Him to renew our minds and hearts. It's about walking in obedience to God's Word, guided by the Holy Spirit.

As we strive to be holy, we must remember that our strength comes from God. We cannot attain holiness in our power, but we can rely on His grace, which empowers us to live a life that pleases Him. We are sanctified and made holy through God's work in us.

The call to holiness extends to every aspect of our lives - thoughts, words, actions, relationships, and choices. We should seek to glorify God in everything we do, reflecting His love, kindness, and compassion to the world around us.

Let us be encouraged by the truth that we are not on this journey alone. God's presence walks with us every step of the way, guiding us and empowering us to live a life worthy of our calling. As we lean on His strength and immerse ourselves in His Word, we will find the inspiration and guidance to live as holy children, shining the light of Christ in a dark world.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me into Your family and setting me apart for a holy purpose. I acknowledge that I cannot be holy alone, but I rely on Your grace and strength to lead me on this journey. Help me to let go of my old ways and conform to Your likeness. May my life reflect Your holiness, bringing glory to Your name and drawing others to Your love. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
