Devotion by Pastor Shane - December 18, 2024

John 1:9 says, "That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world."

As we gather in the warmth of this Christmas season, our hearts are drawn to the greatest gift ever given—the gift of forgiveness. In John 1:9, we are reminded that Jesus is the true light that gives light to everyone, and this light brings with it the transformative power of forgiveness.

Christmas celebrates the incarnation when God became flesh and dwelt among us. In this act of divine love, God's mercy was embodied in the person of Jesus Christ. The true light entered the world to illuminate sin's darkness and offer us the gift of forgiveness.

Forgiveness is a profound theme woven throughout the tapestry of Scripture, and it finds its ultimate expression in the Christmas story. The birth of Jesus marks the beginning of a redemptive journey that would lead to the cross, where sins would be forgiven, and reconciliation with God would be made possible.

John 1:9 serves as a powerful reminder that the light of Christ extends to everyone. It is a universal gift available to all who choose to receive it. No sin is too great, no heart too broken, that the forgiving grace of God cannot touch it. The light of Christ dispels the shadows of guilt and shame, offering us the freedom that comes from being forgiven and redeemed.

As we reflect on the Christmas story, let us take a moment to ponder the profound significance of the gift of forgiveness. Just as the wise men presented gifts to the newborn King, we can bring the gift of our repentant hearts to Jesus. In return, He offers us forgiveness—unmerited, undeserved, yet freely given.

This Christmas, let the true light of Christ shine brightly in your life. Embrace the gift of forgiveness with gratitude and share it with others. In forgiving others, we reflect the love and mercy we have received from the One who came into the world to save us. May the message of forgiveness resonate in our hearts and homes, bringing joy and peace during this blessed season.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of forgiveness through your Son, Jesus Christ. As we celebrate His birth, may we be mindful of the profound grace and mercy extended to us. Help us, Lord, to embrace forgiveness in our own lives and to extend it to others. May the light of Christ illuminate our hearts and homes, bringing joy, peace, and reconciliation. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
