Pastor Shane's Prayer Strategy
Pastor Shane shares the importance of prayer and the strategy that he uses in his prayer life on a daily basis. The pastor believes in his heart that prayer and being plugged into the word of God on a daily basis is the most important thing we can do as Christians. To live the abundant Christian life requires both as you will discover if you follow this strategy.
What It Means to Pray Without Ceasing
The phrase comes from 1 Thessalonians 5:17: “Pray without ceasing.”
It does not mean that we walk around all day with our eyes closed, hands folded, and knees bent. Rather, it points to:
- A Spirit of Constant Communion – Maintaining an open line with God throughout the day. Like breathing, prayer becomes a natural and continual act.
- A Posture of Dependence – Recognizing we need God for every thought, decision, and action.
- A Lifestyle of God-Consciousness – Turning everyday activities—work, family, rest—into opportunities to invite God’s presence and direction.
- Quick Prayers and Deep Prayers – Sometimes prayer is a whisper (“Lord, help me”), other times it’s a dedicated time of intercession. Both are part of “unceasing prayer.”
Strategy for Daily Word and Prayer Engagement
1. Start with the Word
- Morning Verse or Passage – Begin the day by reading a small portion of Scripture.

- Reflect and Record – Jot down one sentence: “What is God saying to me today?” I use my remarkable tablet for this but you can use a sheet of paper of a diary.
2. Scheduled Prayer Moments
- Morning Dedication – A short prayer committing the day to God.
- Midday Pause – A 2–3 minute prayer break to reconnect and realign.
- Evening Reflection – Thank God for His guidance, confess failures, and seek strength for tomorrow.
3. Prayer Prompts & Journaling
- Prompts: Offer rotating prompts (e.g., “Pray for a family member,” “Pray for your church,” “Pray for wisdom in decisions”).
- Digital Prayer Journal: Write down prayer requests, track answered prayers, and see God’s faithfulness over time.
4. Community Accountability
- Prayer Wall or Forum – A place where users can post prayer needs and encourage one another.
(Click here for our prayer portal) - Small Group Challenges – Weekly Scripture and prayer commitments shared in groups (virtual or in person).

5. Weekly Focus Theme
Each week, emphasize one aspect of prayer or Bible engagement. For example:
- Week 1: Thanksgiving
- Week 2: Intercession
- Week 3: Confession
- Week 4: Listening to God
This keeps prayer fresh and intentional.
