Scripture Passage:

Acts 2:42–46

42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

Devotion:

Early Christianity presented us with the idea of a genuine and authentic Christian community. The members devoted themselves to the Word of the apostles and fellowship, got food regularly, and prayed. Their unity and divine love impressed other people, and so God's power itself confirmed what was preached.

Furthermore, another hallmark of their togetherness, which made so big a difference, was the fact that everything they owned was to them a mere resource to be shared with others. Their material resources were not their own but raw material to be made available to assist others. It was open giving so that everything could be shared, and there was not a single needy person among them. So, their bounteous sharing and togetherness had rippled into awe and gratitude, attracted people to their fold, and captivated many more into the community.

In the modern world today, so fast and individualistic, it is highly discouraged to pursue this depth-in-intended fellowship. However, believers have a great call to do life, share, and grow together in faith- more so with the Creator and the created being.

It is only God's Word, prayer, and selfless community action that create His Presence in us. So, it was a transforming experience to change his kind of fellowship in the early churches and bring people to Christ.

Application:

Find out how you are doing toward your fellowship involvement. Are you in tune with an engagement of a life-changing community of worshipers who minister to each other and reach out to others? Plan to connect with a person from your church or small group this coming week. Invite that person to a meal, come and pray together, or enjoy time on purposeful connection building.

Prayer:

Oh, divine Father, these very present to me fellowship and also the best model of the early church. Teach us to live the perfect way of unity and love, to share fully what we are, our lives, and resources. Teach us the Word, prayer, and real relationships. Let people see Your grace and be drawn in. Fill our hearts with joy and sincerity as we share meals and encourage one another in faith. Amen, in Christ's name.
