Scripture:
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
— Genesis 1:26-28
Devotion:
From the beginning of creation, humanity has been presented as a distinguished being designed to represent a godly nature. We discern Him in the divine prints that set us apart from other creatures and distinguish us with His character, love, and authority. This means having an inherent value, purpose, and responsibility.
God first blessed humanity with a call to do something fruitful actively, multiplying and exercising stewardship of the earth. It is not to waste creation but to care for it on His behalf. This responsibility for what God has placed in our charge includes our families, communities, talents, and possibly nature.
In God's Image, we are also relational-designed for a relationship with Him and one another. We must reflect God's love, grace, and righteousness in whatever we do, whether it is work, our families, or our daily interactions; we are always to honor God in our way of life.
The next time you awaken and go about your daily business, please remember this: you are not a mistake in thought. You were meant to be here, cherished, intricate, and purposeful. So walk in the dignity of life knowing that you are made in the image of God, and let His light shine down through you to others in every way you tread.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for making me in your image and giving me purpose. Help me live by displaying Your love, wisdom, and righteousness daily. Help me, therefore, to be a faithful steward of all You have given to me. May my life bring glory to You and draw others nearer to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
