Devotion by Pastor Shane - February 12, 2025

Scripture:

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

— Philippians 4:8 (KJV)

Devotion:

Indeed, the mind is powerful, and what we choose to dwell on shapes our attitudes, actions, and faith. In Philippians 4:8, Paul implores us to reflect and meditate on those things that lead to God's reverence and are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy.

So many diversions, negativity, and fear bombard our minds all the time. Yet, as people of faith, we should aspire to higher integrity and observe that when we can focus on the truth of God instead of the lies of the enemy, our faith becomes strengthened; when we can think about what is pure and lovely, our hearts will be far from sin and temptation; when we can dwell on what is praiseworthy, an attitude of gratitude and joy is established.

Concisely, focusing on these things is not always available or easy but is always necessary. The more God's Word fills us, the more peace we will experience. So next time you let fear, doubt, or worry ascertain in your heart and mind, stop and consider, Is this thought according to Philippians 4:8? Then, dismiss it with what God says. Let His peace fill your heart.

Make a conscious effort today to think lovely thoughts. Speak truths over your life, meditate on God's promises, and let His goodness heal your thought life.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding me that my thoughts should be centered around what is good and pleasing to You. May I be decisive in stopping negative, fearful, and doubting thoughts from invading my mind? Fill up my heart with the purity of Your truth and joyous ideas, that everything about me may give glory to You. As my mind is centered on Your Word, let Your peace reign. In Jesus's name.  Amen.
