Give Thanks in All Circumstances!

Devotion:  From the book of 1 Thessalonians 5:18, we are given a reminder to say, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." This powerful verse invites us to have an attitude of gratitude irrespective of the time of day/event time, whether happiness/prosperity holds true while sorrow and suffering prevail as well. It is easy to thank when all is well, but it is genuinely challenging to find gratitude when in distress, as it is the true test on which we stand in the sight of men before just God.

Looking at our lives from the standpoint of giving thanks automatically removes us from thinking deeply about our challenges and shifts our entire mindset to looking at how good God has been to us. Every moment, regardless of whether it is affable or not, provides an opportunity to experience the grace and sovereignty of God in our lives. Gratitude makes us realize that despite hardships, God is using such things for our good and his glory.

As you journey through the moments of your day, pause to reflect on where you are. For example, what can I be grateful for at this point in time? Let this gratitude draw you closer to Him and change your perspective. Remember that He is always there, guiding us along each step and holding us tight.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you that your presence is constant in my life; help me see positive things no matter where I find myself and develop the habit of always appreciating everything around me. Let others look at all I do today as a reflection of how much You love them and will always be faithful to them. Amen.
