Grace for Today!

Devotion by Pastor Shane - April 11, 2025

Scripture: Matthew 6:34
"Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

Devotion:

Jesus implies here in a soft but firm way that we should avoid worries. "Do not be anxious about tomorrow." Why not? Tomorrow has its own anxiety points, plus there is no plan to carry the burden of today and tomorrow together simultaneously.

"To take no thought" does not mean that we should be indifferent in matters of care or responsible for our duties. Instead, it means that we should not worry about the future. Anxiety is a thief; on one hand, the peace has been taken away; on the other, laughter has been scared away; thirdly, we are prevented from experiencing the grace of this moment.

Jesus further acknowledges these issues by saying, "For the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself." in other words, if today has a load of trouble, then every tomorrow has enough to bring. Yet, on the contrary, we are indirectly encouraged, for every day has its own evil, so every day brings its own grace. Each day delivers new manna, for God provides sufficient grace for physical and spiritual nourishment. He does not give us strength for tomorrow; He gives us strength for the moment.

So instead of being caught up in future-worries-trust-present hopes. Stop being conquered by our ignorance and rest in reports of His ever-loving presence and supply. He is already in your tomorrow. And that means with you today!

Trust Him—just one day at a time.

Prayer:
Father, Thank You for reminding me not to worry about tomorrow. Help me to trust You with today and to rest in the grace You’ve provided for this moment. Teach me to live in the present, knowing You hold all my tomorrows in Your hands. When anxiety tries to rise up, remind me of Your faithfulness. Give me peace, strength, and wisdom for today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
