We live in a day and time where people seem to do whatever they want. As a culture, we have strayed way off the course of God’s will, but there is still an undeniable stigma ascribed to the sin of adultery. In James 4:4, the Bible says: “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God.”
In this text, James is writing to the Church of Jesus Christ. In other words, James is writing to the Christians (those of us who have placed our faith in Jesus.) How do you view sin in your own life? In essence, according to this text in James 4:4, are we cheating on God when we mess around with the things of this world?
God and this world are so opposite of one another; you cannot follow both. We all have to choose to be a friend of God or this evil world. James use of the word “adultery” should get our attention. We must recognize how we hurt the Spirit of God when unfaithful. My friend, are you cheating on God? If things in life are coming before God, then that is equivalent to “cheating” on Him. Perhaps we will all think before we cheat next time. Amen!
