The reality is that someone is either a genuine Christian or not. The behavior of many people who claim to be Christian is why so many people either don’t become interested in Christianity or ask, “Why are there so many fake Christians?”
I call it plastic. I’ve been around many people who put on a plastic mask on Sunday, but they act a totally different way when nobody is either looking or behind the scenes outside of the four walls of the church. Many profess to be Christians, but in reality, they are not Christians because they do not bear the fruit a Christian should bear (Galatians 5:22-23). It’s because of their complacency and comfort in life that gives them a strong delusion that all is well with their soul.
False teaching in the churches is one reason so many believe they are Christians. Churches will grow to eschew teaching the truth of God’s Word and sound doctrine, leading to congregants who do not know the truth of God’s Word.
There are a lot of people who will wear plastic faces. They enjoy talking the talk, but in reality, they never walk the walk when it comes to genuine Christianity. It’s a sad reality that many believing they are Christians will one day hear the words of Jesus, “And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matthew 7:23).
Paul said a genuine believer is set free from sin and made a slave to God. “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life” (Romans 6:22).
Perhaps we need a spiritual check-up and ensure our daily walk aligns with Romans 6:22.
2 Corinthians 11:13–15 reads, “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also are transformed as the ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works.
