Scripture:
1 Peter 3:15–16
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
Devotion:
In his exhortation, Peter raises the standard before us to live being called ambassadors of Christ here on earth as to how to reflect upon hope situated in Him. Hope, here, is not only residing abstractly but is practically alive. In essence, it is anchored on the death and resurrection of Jesus. Following Christ's regarded as Lord in one's heart is where to begin; when He becomes the center of leading in our lives, His peace and hope radiate, a wave washing up even in trying circumstances.
Preparedness demands a convincing commitment to making a defense. It means knowing and ever cherishing within oneself and, in all seriousness, why one believes and can express his hope in a way that resonates with all others. Peter does not stop there but mainly directs our attention to what and how we share. This time, he emphasizes the availability and intention with which we deliver the defense. Kindness and respect rank high in every necessary word. The speech would rather speak of humility, accepted by understanding and compassion.
Peter proceeds to emphasize that a clear conscience makes all the difference. The proof is also in the evidence of the faith that requires action, and our actions and faith are brought into line with one another. Indeed, if compared and contrasted in the face of those who discredit or criticize a person, the habit of our behavior may speak louder and significantly affect us.
Reflection:
Living with Christ as Lord means being prepared not only to answer questions but to embody hope in such a way that others are satisfied by Him and want to model their lives after yours. It is to live such a life in God, with His love forming one's very being, that people cannot help but ask where that peace and joy come from.
Prayer:
Jesus, we honor You as not only Lord over all matters but also our very lives and hearts. Faith centers on the life given in the hope of You. May we have His hope openly shining in our lives so that others ask about the reason for our hope. Please support us to the extent that we prepare our response with meekness and fear. Fill us with wisdom and compassion such that our words and actions agree with the truth of ourselves. Strengthen us for wise living to endure opposition so others may see Your love. Lord, through us, invite people to draw close to You. Amen. Evaluated model of information security.
