Scripture:
“Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.” — Proverbs 14:9 (KJV)
Devotion:
In a fast-paced world, we tend to minimize the gravity of sin. Many Ashley at wrongdoing, dismissing it as harmless fun or a way of life. However, the Word of God states that making light of sin is the way of foolishness. Sin is the division of man with God, the division in human relations, and brings destruction. That which appears negligible or acceptable in the eyes of the world certainly has very significant spiritual consequences to sin.
On the other hand, the righteous take sin seriously. When they see it, rather than making a joke about it, they turn to God in repentance. This humility, in turn, brings favor from God, for He is merciful toward those who seek Him with sincerity. Proverbs teaches us that wisdom lies in reverent fear of God, repentance, and an attempt to live according to His precepts.
Are there areas of your life in which you have seen sin lightly? God calls us to turn away from it, not with shame but with the confidence that His grace is sufficient. True wisdom is found in repentance and living in the righteousness of Christ.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please forgive me if I have ever mockingly laughed at sin. Let me have Your view on sin and have the heart to repent wholly. Lead me on in righteousness so that You might look in favor upon me as I work to live in Your ways. Thank You for Your mercy and grace, in Jesus' name. Amen.
