The King Cometh!
Devotion by Pastor Shane - April 15, 2025
Scripture: John 12:12–19
“On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.”
Devotion:
The streets of Jerusalem were alive with expectation. A multitude gathered, waving palm branches and crying, "Hosanna!" Their shout was not just noise but a cry of hope, longing, and recognition: the King had come. Yet, their understanding of His kingship was limited to earthly expectations—liberation from Rome, power, and prosperity.
But Jesus rode in, not on a warhorse, but on a lowly donkey—fulfilling prophecy, yes, but also revealing the nature of His Kingdom. His was not a reign of force but of peace. Not a throne of gold but a cross of wood. The crowd's excitement was real, but their hearts were fickle. Days later, many would trade their "Hosanna" for "Crucify Him."
This passage calls us to examine our hearts. Do we celebrate Jesus only when He fits our expectations? Or do we follow Him when His path leads to humility, sacrifice, and obedience?
Let us receive the King with our lips and our lives—yielded fully to His reign.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are the King who came in humility and reigns in glory. Forgive us when we seek a Savior of our own making. Teach us to welcome You not just in celebration, but in surrender. May our hearts cry “Hosanna” daily—not just in word, but in faithfulness. Rule over every part of our lives, and be glorified in us. In Your holy name, Amen.
