When I was in Israel, I purchased a silver ring with Numbers chapter 6:24 inscribed on it. Sometimes I will wear this ring in place of my wedding band. This verse says, “The Lord bless thee, and keep thee:” If you read on, it says that he is gracious to us and His countenance is upon you, and He gives you peace. These verses are such an encouragement.
With our tongue, we can either be wise and lift someone up or careless and tear someone down. We can curse someone or bless someone with our mouth. God gave Moses a form of words by which the priest, Aaron in the Old Testament may bless the people. This blessing demonstrates God’s goodwill toward His people.
In Psalm 67, this passage is echoed in a song of blessing that leads right into a prayer of blessing. As Christians, we can sing songs of blessings unto our Lord, but also pray to thank the Lord for His daily blessings in our lives.
We can go through each day of our lives and either become overwhelmed and discouraged or see the blessings that God has given us that is evident in our individual lives. Amen!
