Devotion by Pastor Shane - April 9, 2025

Scripture: John 1:9–13
"That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

Devotion:

Take some insight from the above passage, and one may learn how gloriously the Light of the World entered the darkness. This Creator of everything came onto His creation and yet was not recognized. Tragically, He was not taken by His people. The Light manifested unto the world, but many preferred remaining in deeper darkness.

But let not hopelessness prevail. Verse 12 is hopeful: "But as many as received him, to them gave him power to become the sons of God." What a gloriously astonishing Truth! Here, God keeps the opportunity open for us to enter into the divine sonship- not by birthright, effort, or human will, but by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

The phrase "shall receive Him" means to welcome, believe in Him, and place our faith in Him as our only means of salvation. If we do this, God has not only forgiven us; He has accepted us. In receiving grace, we have become heirs. We are granted the right to become children of God by adoption—children raised in their Father's way, family, and business. It is not just a change in title but in essence and soul. We are no longer in darkness or sin, as our past defines us as strangers or sinners; we have been made children and daughters, co-heirs with Christ, born of God.

Begin with the texts of this Truth: your value is not in what you have done or where you have come from but in who you belong to. Only he shall receive a child of God. Walk in that Truth. Let His Light lead you. Let His love give you identity. And don't ever underestimate the power He gave you to be His.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,Thank You for sending Jesus, the true Light, into this dark world. Thank You for the gift of adoption—that through faith in Christ, I have the power to become Your child. Help me to walk in the truth of who I am in You, not based on my past or my own strength, but on Your grace and love. Shine Your light in me and through me, that others may come to know You too.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
