Scripture:
“It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” — Psalm 118:8 (KJV)

Devotion:

On one of the center pages of the Bible, Psalm 118, verse 8, has been set as a reminder for anyone who treads upon the safest and surest ground—that is, "As in God." Moreover, the verse is more than an elegant simile; it is stoic in practice. In a world where human promises often fail, leaders are misled, and loved ones hardly provide strength or direction; the psalmist brings into sight the only secure shelter found in the Lord Himself.

At other times, trusting in an individual is preferable to trusting in the one person we cannot see and hear. But God has never done anything but be reliable, sturdy, and wise. We trust in Him when we hold Him up to His character and agree that He is forever faithful and kind.

Delving into the book of Psalms, verse eight of chapter one hundred eighteen cuts a mega swath amid wavering fears and uncertainty. Trust God, for people do not have what can be extended and finally understood. Man is merely a crumb, while God goes on and on overall.

So whenever the world tries to persuade us to take refuge in systems, success, or from within ourselves, may we always remember: nowhere is this refuge safer than under the shadow of the Almighty. Like better, infinitely better is trust in Him.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,  Thank You for being the one I can always trust. When people fail, when systems collapse, when I don't understand what You're doing—help me to remember that it is always better to trust in You. Teach me to place my confidence not in man, but in Your unchanging Word and perfect will. Strengthen my heart to lean not on my own understanding, but to rest in the safety of Your presence. I choose today to place my trust fully in You.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
