Scripture Passage:
Mark 5:21-34 (Paraphrased)
A large crowd followed and pressed around him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.
Devotion:
We have reflected an aching woman in the scripture. She kept praying persistently. For a dozen full years, she underwent myriads of grief, pain and loneliness, and financial destitution, and still the body went on deteriorating. In desperation, she was told that Jesus was around and that even her single touch would be enough to cure her.
But what is more worthy of note in this woman is her faith. It was not loud and far-reachingly public; it was quiet, simple, and direct- a faith born deep inside. She did not press for an audience with Jesus or call for him to stop. She merely reached out, trusting in His omnipotence and service to others. But that was all enough to bring about the healing she wished for.
Because it did not represent any disturbance on her side; instead, it was about a desperate faith expressed through contact that Jesus immediately recognized the specific girl who had touched Him healed. When she came, shaking, honest, and slightly shy, He said to her, "Dear, your faith has made you better. Do in peace, and be freed of your suffering. "
This pericope reminds us that no matter how long one goes into a thing or how impossible it is to reach into this zone, Jesus is always close by. Often, we stretch our arms into faith and make us whole in His power.
Application:
Do you feel you are being spared from a hopeless case, such as the woman in this account? Jesus is around, and His distinction is always adequate, even today. Faith is very uncomplicated; All it requires is to come true enough to reach out when all other ways have run into a dead end. What are the areas of your life will you reach out to him, confident that his touch will bring healing and renewal?
