Scripture:
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:”
— Psalm 103:2 (KJV)
Devotion:
It can be hard to get caught up in the demands of everyday life. However, Psalm 103:2 commands us to pause and consider the kindness of our God. The sacred song beckons me to bless the Lord with all my being and to count all He has done for me.
Okay, so what benefits are those? Retribution 103:3 answers: Forgive; Heal the diseases; Redeem, and Crown with lovingkindness and mercy. Satisfy with good. Everyone benefits even as hardship abounds. Otherwise, whatever is seen is unseen, unknown by man.
Being oblivious to God's blessings often spells worry and ingratitude, which spells discouragement. Deliberate remembrance of the works of His hands—how He nurtured, regulated, and reconciled us—kindles the joy and peace our hearts yearn for. Naturally, our railings against Him transform into loud hymns of praise as our faith gets emboldened.
Now, bless the Lord and remember all His kindness today. Whenever possible, remember to praise Him for every little favor, as love puts every change into perspective and always links its heart with His truth. The promise is real, in whatever situation; He is the One who has been and shall keep faithful.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for your countless blessings on my life. Forgive me, Father, for taking Your goodness for granted. Teach me the value of remembering Your faithfulness and praising You wholeheartedly. Fill me with a thankful spirit and faith, knowing You are good and working out good for me. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
