Goals!

Devotion by Pastor Shane - January 3, 2023

So here we are, in the new year, 2023. I wonder how we'll do in this upcoming year (2023). Will we be as busy? Will we make any better use of our time? A year from now, when the new year is over, will we be looking back with joy or with regret? Will we be looking at the future with anticipation or with dread?

Each year I always set some new goals. I never make resolutions because they don't pan out. But as a goal setter, I always set new goals for my new year.

First, we must be cautious about how we live because my time and your time [our] time on this earth is running out. The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 39:4: "Lord, Make me know mine end, And the measure of my days, what it is; That I may know how frail I am." In Psalm 90:10:10, "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; And if because of strength they are fourscore years, Yet is their strength labour and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away."

Paul tells us we must make "the most of every moment." And he gives a reason in V.16: "because the days are evil." Jesus said that Satan is a robber and a thief, and one of the things he tries to rob us of is our time because time is a very precious possession.

Paul answers this in V.17: 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

What do you think God's will is for you in 2023?
