One of my first embarrassing moments serving in the ministry was as a student pastor. I was reflecting on what I had studied for the message and suddenly became tongue twisted when I attempted to say the word "perseverance," It came out as gibberish, causing a large group of youth to start laughing at me. Perseverance is a big word, but it is something that many people do not put to practice in this day and age.
We live in a time where we need to see more people embrace perseverance. In other words, to remain strong, hang in there, and finish what they start. People need to stick to it until it is finished. Today, too many people want to throw in the towel and give up and quit too soon. Our tendency as humans is to stop before we cross the finish line.
Think about Jesus; He had perseverance and never quit! We read where Jesus asked God the Father if He could pass the cup, but He knew that He must fulfill the Father's will. That is why the words of Jesus are marvelous, where He says, "It is finished!" Aren't you thankful Jesus didn't give up on you and just quit before completing the Heavenly Father's will?
Are you close to quitting? Paul kept his eye on the prize, and we must follow those same steps. We need to press toward the goal and hold God's course for our lives. AMEN!
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 reads: "16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal."
