The Joy of Easter!

Psalm 30 is a song of thanksgiving to God for his deliverance from distress. In verse 5, the psalmist declares, "Psalm 30:5 (KJV 1900)

5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." This verse is particularly relevant to Easter, as it speaks to our hope in Christ's resurrection.

Just as the psalmist experienced a season of weeping and distress, so did Jesus' followers experience grief and despair in the aftermath of his crucifixion. But just as joy came with the morning for the psalmist, so did joy for Jesus' followers when they discovered the empty tomb and encountered the risen Lord.

As we celebrate Easter, let us remember that just as God delivered the psalmist from his distress, he has also delivered us from the power of sin and death through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We can trust that God's anger is only for a moment, but his favor is for a lifetime, and that joy comes with the morning. Let us give thanks to God for his faithfulness and for the hope that we have in Christ's resurrection.
