Scripture:
John 8:12
12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Devotion:
In this potent utterance, Jesus displays a deep insight into Himself and into the world, which at times is enveloped in spiritual gloom; consequently, He perceives Himself as the one who affords guidance, clarity, and hope in a world of many confused situations. Light is an enemy of darkness that gives safety and direction, thus fulfilling this role for our souls. Jesus Christ reveals the pathway to God, illuminates sin, and tells the truth.
With Jesus Christ we are delivered from stumbling around confusedly or hopelessly in sin. His Light is both a revelation of the path and a changer, transforming people to reflect it on others. He promises it clearly: as long as one walks with him he or she cannot be lost anywhere but has always got heart full with life’s clarifying element “In life’s train Jesus Christ”.
Heeding Jesus as the Light of the world mandates an ongoing commitment on our part: believe him and obey his word daily, turning away from our thoughts. Therefore, let His Light lead us because in him, there is only assurance about life itself, peace, and the joyfulness of his company.
Reflection:
Prayer:
Thank you, Lord, for being the Light that shines out darkness, leading me away from sin’s darkness; let me be a faithful follower depending solely upon Your will for everything in life; show up where I am totally lost/uncertain; thus, shall I have courage enough to abide by Your truth. In Jesus’ name, we ask all these things, amen!
