Scripture:
John 6:35
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Devotion:
Jesus speaks to our yearnings inside. He says He is the bread that gives life, and there is no point in going around searching for other bread that will fail to satisfy us when we have the source of all power right in front of us.
The human body requires two things for its survival: food and water. However, the soul craves forever something that accords purpose, love, and peace.
When Jesus says, “I am the bread of life. If you come to Me, you will never be hungry again; if you believe in Me, you will never be thirsty” (John 6), then He invites us into a relationship where it is only He and no other person who can adequately provide for all our spiritual needs. Oftentimes, wealth, success, relationships, or anything else can only provide temporal satisfaction, after which hunger and thirst would come again; however, it is only from Christ alone that we will enjoy real life.
May we check ourselves today for satisfaction? Do we depend upon perishable bread to give us eternal life? Jesus wants you to rely on him as your supplier, sustainer, and life-giver. Sometimes, we need to have faith in anything else—if we trust him daily, we can know he is enough.
Reflection:
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me remember that you alone give life and satisfy the hungry hearts. Yes, I am sorry for seeking my portion into things that are perishable. You are my daily sustainer, and I ask for your continued help in whatever need arises within me, both spiritual and otherwise. Let my faith grow so I may speak out Your love that brings life eternal to others around me even though I am weak because it’s not difficult when I am with You since there’s no peace or happiness outside of You this world over. So, may I be filled with Your joy always in Your name lest I lose hope forevermore – Amen
