In my many years of serving in the ministry, I have been asked many questions about God and the Bible, and I have struggled to answer specific questions that people ask. One of those problematic and even perplexing questions of the Scripture is what we call "The Trinity!"
Christianity is the only religion in the world that has embraced the concept of the Trinity. When we read from Genesis to Revelation, we never find the word "Trinity." Trinity is a word that we use to express the unity of the Godhead as three coeternal, coequal Persons, each having the same substance but distinct existence.
The Bible recognizes Jesus Christ as God (John 1:1; John 20:28; Hebrews 1:8).
The Bible recognizes the Holy Spirit as God (Acts 5:3-4; I Corinthians 3:16 & 12:4-6).
The Bible says both the Son and Holy Spirit possess the attributes of God (John 6:69 and Ephesians 4:30).
Both the Son and the Holy Spirit do the works of God. (John 1:3; Genesis 1:2).
The Son and the Holy Spirit receive worship (Philippians 2:10; Matthew 28:19).
The first mention of God is found in Genesis 1:1.
The Scripture speaks of God having a Son (Psalm 2:7).
God distinguishes Himself from Himself (Genesis 19:24).
The Angel of the Lord equates Himself to God (Genesis 22:11 & 16).
The Angel of the Lord is identified as God (Genesis 16:9)
Key Verse to the Trinity: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 18:19).
Matthew 3:13–17 says: 13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. 14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. 16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
The Holy Spirit is the person of God Himself working in our lives and worth of all glory, honor, and praise! Amen!
