How do you deal with life when things don’t go as you planned? We have all experienced situations in life where we say or ask: “What could I have done differently?” We have all been in a case before where we have thought, “If I hadn’t said that, but said this,” or “if I had only done this and not done that.” Many times we need in life what I call a “mulligan” (a golf term), which means “A Do-Over!”
We serve a God who gives us mulligans in life. We have been given a piece of scripture in the Bible that is encouraging. In 1 John 1:9, the Bible says: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” The God we serve is able and will forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from our wrongdoing.
I have people who tell me, well, I have done something so wrong that God will never forgive me. If we believe God and His Word, then He clearly states that if we confess them unto Him that He will cleanse us. The word cleanse means that He will totally forgive and forget.
So back to the question: “How do you deal with life when things don’t go as you planned?” (1). Pray, asking God to reveal your part of the situation (James 1:5). (2). If you have sin in your life, you need to confess it (1 John 1:9). (3). Pray about what you can do to make the situation better and then do it (Matthew 5:23-24). (4) You need to be willing to forgive yourself and everybody who is involved in the situation (Ephesians 4:31-32). (5). Seek wisdom from God regarding the circumstances of regret (Proverbs 3:13-14). (6). Most importantly, trust God (Romans 8:28). Amen!
