What Is Idolatry?

IDOLATRY!


According to Webster, "Idolatry" is "the worship of idols or excessive devotion to, or reverence for some person or thing." A simple definition of Idolatry is anything that replaces the One, true God.

Idolatry is replacing the real God with any false god. That poses the question, why is there such an inclination in the human heart toward Idolatry? I can tell you why. If you create your own God, you can make the rules, and you get to decide what is right and wrong. 

Guess what? If you play god, you can change the rules at any time. Some people have received, rejected, and replaced the knowledge of the true God with the god of their own creation. 

Friend, anything that prevents you from serving and worshipping God, flee from it. We make daily choices about whether or not to serve and worship God, and nothing is to come before Him. Remember, anything that comes before God is considered Idolatry.

1 Corinthians 8:4 reads, "As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one."
